Farmers Insurance Open

Ryan-PalmerThe ‘West Coast Swing’ gyrates its hips over to San Diego, California this week, as perhaps one of the world’s most famous golf courses, hosts the Farmers Insurance Open, which it has done since 1968. That course is Torrey Pines, with both the South and North courses being used in the first two days of the event. Over the past 5 years of the event, the key stat has been GIR percentage (Greens In Regulation), with the eventual winner ranking no worse than 22nd in that statistic for the week.

Ryan Palmer – Stake 1.00% (0.50% each-way) or £50 (£25 each-way)

What’s not to love? Recent form reads 4th, 17th, 10th, and 12th. Course form reads 13th in 2019, 2nd in 2018. The only real concern is his putter, but currently ranked 45th in G.I.R more than makes up for that.

Lanto Griffin – Stake 0.80% (0.40% each-way) or £40 (£20 each-way)

Yep, I’m on the Mr Griffin train once again. I still believe he is vastly underrated by most bookmakers. He finished 7th in his last start at the Sony Open, and 12th at his only appearance at the Farmers, back in 2018. Currently ranks 38th in G.I.R, 12th in putting, and 14th in scoring.

Sebastian Munoz – Stake 0.60% (0.30% each-way) or £30 (£15 each-way)

Whilst riding the Griffin train, I also hop onboard the Munoz wagon every now and again. Same principle, he is still being undervalued, even after his win at the Sanderson Farms. Since that win he had a 3rd place finish at the RSM Classic, with a few top 30’s sprinkled in. He has no real weak point in his game, and 100/1 is very generous.

Tom Hoge – Stake 0.40% (0.20% each-way) or £20 (£10 each-way)

After a 6th place finish last weekend, I was a little shocked to see his odds quite so high. A guy who has yet to win on tour, despite coming very close not that long ago at the Greenbrier. His G.I.R is a little lower than I would like, but I can’t pass up odds approaching 200/1 on a guy who has some very low rounds in his locker.
