The American Express, or formerly known as the Desert Classic, begins the start of the PGA Tours ‘west coast swing’, and whilst the name may have changed, the venue remains the same, with La Quinta, Calfornia playing host, as the field takes on not only La Quinta Country Club, but also the PGA West and Stadium courses.
I liked the look of Kevin Kisner, Vaughn Taylor and Billy Horschel heading into this week, but once the odds were released I had to leave them alone, as they were too short, which leaves me with the following selections.
Bill Haas – Stake 0.20% (0.10% each-way) or £10 (£5 each-way)
It’s not very often you get odds at 200/1 on a two-time winner of an event, granted that was in 2015 and 2010, and he has recent struggles from a few off the field events. That being said he did string together some nice finishes in the middle of last season, and if he’s going to feel comfortable anywhere, then it’s in La Quinta.

Mark Hubbard – Stake 0.20% (0.10% each-way) or £10 (£5 each-way)
The 30 year old has had a decent start to this wrap-around season, and almost claimed his maiden PGA Tour win at the Houston Open, where he finished in a tie for second place. Hubbard has always been able to roll the ball, and whilst he isn’t a bomber that won’t be a problem this weekend.
