Military Tribute at The Greenbrier

murray_grayson-1040x572So, after a quick end of summer hiatus, the PGA Tour returns, with the Greenbrier kick starting the new FedEx Cup campaign. The Old White TPC Course will play host once again, which it has done since the tournament became part of the tour back in 2010. A relatively short course (7,286 yards), with the average winning score being 15 under par over the past 8 years. Whilst the scores have been low, the event has never really been a bombers paradise, with Scott Stallings the only exception in 2011.

You will notice that player write-ups may be a little on the short side this week, mainly because most of the guys in the tournament wouldn’t have played in a PGA Tour event for at least a month, so form is taken from the Korn Ferry Tour, in which statistics are a little limited compared to the PGA Tour.

Bronson Burgoon – Stake 0.20% (0.10% each-way) or £10 (£5 each-way)

Burgoon was the bridesmaid on two occasions last season, finishing in a tie for second at both the John Deere and CIMB Classic. He also ended the season fairly strong with a 5th place finish at the Barracuda Championship, so should fancy his chances in a weakened field this week.

Robert Streb – Stake 0.20% (0.10% each-way) or £10 (£5 each-way)

A winner on tour back in 2014, he certainly enjoys his time at the Greenbrier with an 11th place finish last season, and two 2nd places finishes his 2 starts prior to that. He’s always been a streaky player, so I’m happy to take the chance at 80/1.

Anirban Lahiri – Stake 0.20% (0.10% each-way) or £10 (£5 each-way)

A 7 time winner on the European and Asian Tour, he has struggled to make an impression on the PGA Tour, with a 2nd place at the Memorial being his best finish. He’s had back to back Top 10’s on the Korn Ferry Tour, so this week may be when he finally breaks through.

Brandon Hagy – Stake 0.20% (0.10% each-way) or £10 (£5 each-way)

To say that Hagy struggled on the PGA Tour last season would be an understatement, having missed 13 out of 14 cuts, however, he did get his form back quickly on the Korn Ferry Tour finishing 5th and then 2nd in his 2 starts. If he can carry that form over this time around 100/1 looks very generous.

Fabian Gomez – Stake 0.20% (0.10% each-way) or £10 (£5 each-way)

A two-time winner on the PGA Tour, he finished 2nd at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship and will be hoping to get his season off to a decent start. Odds exceeding 125/1 are a little surprising, when you consider the competition he faces this week.

Grayson Murray – Stake 0.20% (0.10% each-way) or £10 (£5 each-way)

Once considered the next big thing after claiming victory at the Barbasol in 2017, he went off the boil for the past few years. After 2nd, 7th and 11th place finishes on the Korn Ferry Tour in recent weeks, he will know that he needs to rack up some FedEx Cup points before the big boys come back on tour.

Zac Blair – Stake 0.20% (0.10% each-way) or £10 (£5 each-way)

A guy who back in 2015 went through a very solid spell on the PGA Tour with 3rd, 4th, 6th and 8th place finishes. Unfortunately that form didn’t continue, but Blair has fought his way back onto the PGA Tour with a win at the Ellie Mae Classic.
