Arnold Palmer Invitational

billy-horschel-att-byron-nelson-sunday-crouchWe head to the home of one of the greats this week, Mr Arnold Palmer, as the ‘Florida Swing’ continues at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, taking place at Bay Hill, Orlando. Very much a favourite of one Tiger Woods, who has held the trophy aloft on 8 occasions. Key stat of the week, putting average! I really wanted to add in Justin Rose this week, but given his recent poor form, and the fact that we’ve got an unusually large amount of selections I just couldn’t pull the trigger.

Billy Horschel

His odds were way too short last week (around 30/1) which is why I left him out, however as they have crept back up to the 60’s this week I’m happy to back Billy-Ho in his home state. Coming off a couple of top 10 finishes in the last month, and sitting 55th in putting average, and 25th in strokes gained putting it could be the time for Billy to get back in the winners circle.

Kevin Kisner

Yep, a certain Mr Kisner has cropped up again, a man who finished 2nd at this tournament back in 2017 losing by 1 shot to Marc Leishman. My only concern his relatively cold putter so far in 2020, ranking 129th in putting average, but with odds sat around 80/1 I still feel there is plenty of value.

Wyndam Clark

After carding a 66 on the final day of the Honda Classic, Clark secured his 3rd top 20 finish in a row. His ball striking is somewhat ‘flakey’, but since joining the PGA Tour he has consistently been one of the best putters week in and week out, which as we know is just what you need at Bay Hill.

Maverick McNealy

To the best of my knowledge this the first time I have backed Maverick, and why not. Currently in great form with 11th, 27th, 5th, and 15th place finishes in the last 6 weeks. Not to mention he ranks 43rd in putting average, and 20th in strokes gained putting. It would be a big step up were McNealy to win this event, but at 125/1 is worth the risk.

Mark Hubbard

Another solid week for Hubbard, with an 11th place finish at the Honda. You never hear this guys name mentioned very often, which is good for us, as he ranks 22nd in putting average heading into this week, and I was a little shocked to his odds as big as 275/1 with Bet365.

Robbie Shelton

Another first time selection for us, and I’m sure most will think that it’s a little bit out of left field. Like Hubbard he’s coming off a solid 11th place finish at the Honda. A multiple winner on the Korn Ferry Tour he’s managed a couple of top 10’s since joining the PGA Tour at Mayakoba and Greenbrier. Shelton ranked 2nd on the Korn Ferry Tour in putting average last season, so if he can bring that form this week he may just shock a few people.
