The Genesis Invitational

Justin-Rose-with-golf-ball-PA-e1556713440600-752x428Another week, another Californian coastline for the best players on the PGA Tour to take on. This time it’s the Riviera Country Club, in Pacific Palisades, which landed three Top 10 selections last year, with Si-Woo Kim, Hideki Matsuyama, and Adam Hadwin all returning some nice profit. At over 300 yards longer than the courses they faced last weekend, driving distance is more of a factor with the likes of J.B.Holmes, Bubba Watson, and Dustin Johnson winning in recent years. It was tough to leave Patrick Reed on the table this week, but his driving distance was a concern. Scott Piercy was also shortlisted, but his putter isn’t as reliable as I would like, which leaves us with the guys listed below.

Justin Rose

I can’t remember the last time I seen odds the big for Justin Rose. Whilst he missed the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open, he was on a nice run prior to that with 2nd and 5th place finishes. He also has played some nice golf at Riviera, finishing 4th in his last start there in 2017.

J.B. Holmes

Very surprised to see odds this high on Homes, having finished inside the top 20 in his last 3 starts, on top of winning this event last time around. His putting has vastly improved this season, as he currently ranks 16th in strokes gained, and we all know he can bomb it with the best of them.

Max Homa

Homa was a guy that I wanted to back last week, but his odds were sat around the 60/1 mark, and were a little too short for me. However, this week they sit around the 100/1 mark, which is more than enough for me to pull the trigger. He’s finished inside the top 20 for 3 weeks straight, and ranks well in strokes gained off the tee, and strokes gained putting.

Lanto Griffin

I still can’t ignore this guy, another top 10 finish last weekend, after a couple of bad weeks. My only concern is that he is yet to play Riviera in a competitive tournament, but certainly has the game to navigate it. A few would be surprised to see Griffin positioned at 41st in driving distance, and when you match that his superb putting stats, another victory could be right around the corner.

  1. Thanks for another week of profit. 🙂

My bookie paid out at odds of 8.40 for Homa (E/W 101; 6 places paid). Is that correct? I’m not very familiar with how they pay out tied places. Cheers!
