Barbasol Championship

skWhilst the eyes of the golfing world are focused on Royal Portrush this week, it does give those players on the fringe of the Fed-Ex Cups magic Top 125 an opportunity to secure their card for next season, as well as possibly claiming that all important maiden tour victory. For the second year in a row the Keene Trace Golf Club plays host, and with last years winner Troy Merritt finishing on 23 under, you know it’s going to be another birdie fest.

Sebastian Munoz – Stake 0.80% (0.40% each-way) or £40 (£20 each-way)

The Colombian has had a slow month, but prior to that he strung together some decent finishes at the Canadian Open and Byron Nelson. He currently ranks 59th in Driving Distance, and with most of the bombers over in Northern Ireland he’ll certainly be one of the longest off the tee. He also sits 50th in Birdie Average, and with the forecast set to be a scorcher, the fairways will be firm and fast, which we know will lead to low scores.

Wes Roach – Stake 0.80% (0.40% each-way) or £40 (£20 each-way)

I was extremely surprised to see the odds so high for 30 year old. Just look at his recent form. 10th at the John Deere, 3rd at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, 11th at the Canadian Open, and 10th at the Knoxville Open (Korn Ferry Tour event). Roach doesn’t really have the game for Keene Trace, but his odds and form mean I have to pull the trigger.

Smylie Kaufman – Stake 0.20% (0.10% each-way) or £10 (£5 each-way)

Right, this selection fly’s completely in the face of my usual process. Kaufman has absolutely no form going into this event, and has missed nearly every single cut in the past 12 months. But bare with me, in what is a very weak field this may be the week that Kaufman puts his demons to rest. The guy can certainly bomb it with the best of them, and if those putts start rolling in then he could string some low scores together. At a whopping 500/1 I’m willing to take a stab in the dark.
