Mayakoba Golf Classic

doc-redman-rocket-mortgage-sunday-2019The PGA Tour slowly makes its return to the US, although it makes a quick stop in Mexico for the Mayakoba Golf Classic. I’m not sure if it’s right to be annoyed at the results from last weekend considering there wasn’t a PGA Tour event, but seeing Tyrell Hatton claim victory at the Turkish Airlines Open brought with it a tinge of annoyance, after backing him a couple of times in the past few weeks. Although it does show that the selection process is still firing on all cylinders. The El Camaleon Golf Club will look to test the world’s best, but with an average winning score of 20 under par it usually doesn’t do a very good job.

Denny McCarthy – Stake 0.80% (0.40% each-way) or £40 (£20 each-way)

A guy I’ve had my eye on for a few weeks now. Has consistently been one of the best putters on tour over the past few years, and has strung together some nice finishes of 15th, 9th, 9th and 18th in his last 4 starts.

Lanto Griffin – Stake 0.80% (0.40% each-way) or £40 (£20 each-way)

Yep, we head back to the Griffin well. After landing his maiden tour victory he backed that up with a nice 18th place finish at the Bermuda Championship. His odds a still big, for a guy who’s yet to finish outside the top 20, in his last 6 starts. He ranks around the top 50 in every major category, and could easily claim another victory this weekend.

Mark Hubbard – Stake 0.40% (0.20% each-way) or £20 (£10 each-way)

The 30 year old has finally begun to show some consistency on tour, with 2nd, 10th and 13th place finishes since the new wraparound season started. Currently ranked 10th in strokes gained on tour, I was surprised to see odds over 100/1.

Doc Redman – Stake 0.40% (0.20% each-way) or £20 (£10 each-way)

A youngster who was mentioned in the same breath as Hovland, Wolff and Morikawa, has yet to really show up consistently on Sundays, apart from a 2nd place finish at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He’s been playing some solid golf, with only his scrambling being his main achillies heel. Again, odds over 100/1 are surprising.
